VARIETY
Giving every child the chance to thrive
Transform a child’s life
For over 75 years, Variety has existed to improve the lives of disabled and disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. With your help, we can make a difference to even more children.
How we help
Variety provides life-changing grants that offer practical support for disabled and disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. Over 600,000 children with disabilities are living in poverty in the UK today. Variety’s practical support makes an immediate difference, helping children to reach their full potential. The Variety Impact Ecosystem consists of four programmes that help thousands of children everyday. We provide referral pathways, so children can receive practical support that has the power to transform their lives.
Support for children
We support children and young people under the age of 19 who have a recognised disability or long-term health condition and are living in a low or no income family.
Special equipment for children
We deliver life-changing equipment, including specialised educational and adaptive play equipment, hoists, walkers, beds, furniture and specialist car seats.
Life-changing equipment for mobility, independence and social inclusion
The right piece of equipment can mean the difference between playing outside with friends or watching from the sidelines; between being independent or relying on others for everything; between being able to do tasks safely and comfortably or struggling. It can help with pain management, muscle strength, communication, sensory challenges, self-esteem, social skills and confidence.
Variety can help by funding grants for a broad range of specialist equipment. Please note that applications for wheelchairs should be made via our wheelchair grants programme.
Wheelchairs for children
We directly provide manual, sport, and powered wheelchairs to help children become more independent.
Grants that open up the world for young people with disabilities
We know that a wheelchair has to be appropriate for each child’s needs and environment. This is why we have a flexible funding policy and can part or fully fund a range of manual, powered and sports wheelchairs where appropriate, according to the age and medical condition of each child.
